If this were only a pruner, we'd still have thought it was a fantastic tool. But add to this top-notch pruner the capability to also edge, trim, blow and cultivate, and you've got everything you need for just about any yard job.

As a pruner, its very aggressive chain-saw head will slice through a six-inch branch with just light, steady pressure. It's lighter than we expected, and all its weight is borne on the left shoulder, while you control the trigger with your right hand. The resulting balance is comfortable and secure.

Since it's electric, there's obviously no pull cord to yank on, something those with shoulder problems or those without some upper body strength will really like. Your extension cord is all that's needed.

But perhaps the best feature of this nifty pruner is the fact that it converts easily to a shed full of power garden tools. I needed to trim some branches away from the wires. Also I want to trim back a tree to keep the roots from getting into my sewer pipe and costing me the $1500 it cost to dig that up and fix it. I talked to some young people into climbing up the tree with a ladder and triming it with whatever we could find. They said they would do it sometime, but the job never seemed to get done. Then I bought the Poulan Pole Saw because Poulan has alway had a very good reputation, even 30 years ago. As it turned out the rig was a little heavy for me. Still the very next person I talked to, I handed them the saw and zip, zip it was done. They were done a lot quicker then if we had stood around and talked about it. Also, he did not even charge me anything. He just went to brag to his girl friend about trimming the tree and she was impressed so everyone was happy. Next time a young person shows up I will hand him the Poulan and let them do some more trimming on other trees. It is very quick and easy. In fact they think it is fun, they like to use the saw. It is amazing how fast and easy this saw is if you have the strength to use it.
Customer Review: Another negative vote for this product
Same kind of plastic shaft coupling failure that others have experienced. Same run-around from local Poulan repair shop. Same frustrating experience from Poulan trying to get warranty replacement (they finally did replace the unit). The product is good -- while it works. But anything more than what you can cut with a manual pole pruner (~1") seems to overload the shaft coupling. I'm afraid to use the tiller attachment becasue it seems like it would be a much heavier load on the coupling. This must have been designed by the Poulan CEO's idiot son and no one has guts enough to fix it.

Customer Review: Great Inexpensive Gas String Trimmer
Owned one of these for six years and then it gave up the ghost due to abuse my me. Pros: Light weight, good length for taller person (I'm six foot), starts easy, works great. It is a simple to own and operate piece of yard equipment. Cons: none really for the price except cant hook on accessories which wasn't a con to me since i find split shaft machines to be heavier. I spent a whole day looking for a unit to replace my old poulan p1500 and then decided ("after looking all darn day", as my wife stated) that I couldn't find a better price performance machine. So I bought another poulan P1500!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Customer Review: At long last, one that works!
Did a LOT of research online and in stores, only to be disappointed several times before finding the Husqvarna 128LDx (same as 128L, but with detachable shaft to allow for accessories) My old Ryobi bit the dust, and the new ones in the big box stores are junk. I can't believe how downhill they've gone. Pain in the neck to assemble, no more multiple choke positions for when it starts varnishing up over time (even with proper maintenance, fuel treatment and storage). I put the new one I purchased back in the box and promptly returned it to the HD big box store. I then looked at (and actually purchased and returned after reading instructions and learning more about them) the Echo and MTD (4-stroke). The Echo I bought had the kind of head where you put small pieces of string into the head easily, and then replaced the pieces when they broke off while trimming. This seemed too much a hassle to always have to stop and replace those pieces (however simple) everytime you hit a chain link fence or landscaping block. Some of the higher end Echo's are pretty nice, and were in 2nd place for me, but talking to a number of people in the know gave the nod to the Husqvarna. The Echo's have great motors, but a tendency to have string jams, meltdowns, etc. The Husqvarna is the easiest to add more line to, and is known to be bulletproof in that area. The 4-stroke MTD seemed like a sweet idea, but when I read the instructions and learned about the maintenance (you need to have feeler gauges and be able to adjust the valve-lash -- not something your average joe homeowner really wants to mess with). Plus, I heard that the durability may not be there. Certainly seems there are good reasons that people who use these things professionally stay away from the 4-strokes (heavy and lack of durability). So finally came upon the Husqvarna. Solid reviews whereever I went, and known for WORKING. Great, powerful motor that is easy starting and long lasting. Fairly light weight, trimmer head is a bump head that's very easy to refill. Straight shaft, professional style trimmer that I got for an even two bills at the dealer -- who set it up for me, got it running/adjusted perfectly and showed me all the ins and outs. Other notes: Decent sound level -- not all that loud. Does not smoke -- Etec II engine is pretty clean for a two stroke. So far I am very pleased!

Customer Review: Frustration
This device comes with a vague instruction manual. How long is 10.5 comma? The comma appearing where you wouild normally find a foot or inch designation. If you use it with a series of short bursts like fine trimming around a circular base or series of ornamental rocks the line just keeps feeding till it gets so long it fouls upon itself with the two ends twining like caduceus snakes. If you ever need to turn your trimmer off in the coursr of your trimming. This is note a trimmer to be considered. Fairness aside: I did not have this problem with the original string. This problem was with replacement string, but still....
Customer Review: Troy Built string trimmer
The Troy Built string trimmer is a heavy duty product, but the weight may be too much for some people especially if used over an extended period of time. The duel string spool seems unnecessary, and the Troy system of feeding line not with a bump but with a stoppage of the motor wastes much string. It's constantly feeding line every time you pause in your work. The use of oversized line (.80) seems extreme as well. That old .065 line in the garage is now a pitch. For small neighborhood lawns a smaller and lighter product would probably be a better choice.

Customer Review: A good worker right out of the box
I ordered this edger as my first attachment for the Troy-Bilt TB70SS 2-cycle string trimmer I purchased locally last summer. Troy-Bilt 31cc 2-Cycle Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer With SpeedLock #TB70SS Having read the reviews here and recognizing that some have had trouble with the "universal" nature of the Expand-It attachments on various machines, I was inclined to be skeptical. I need not have worried. The attachment arrived in good shape, and appeared to be in never-used condition. The only indication that it is not new is the "RECON" mark heat-stamped into the plastic near the curb guard. The attachment mated perfectly with my power unit, and off I went. It took about 20 feet of sidewalk before I got the hang of edging with this attachment; following that, the job went fast. Homelite says that light contact with the sidewalk or curb wlll not damage the blade. Good thing, because on this first cut of a never-edged sidewalk the sparks were occasionally flying! Now that I can see the edge I anticipate future jobs will be easier. This appears to be a sturdy, well-built tool. Buying factory-reconditioned is a little like eating pot-luck, but the total $40 I paid, including shipping, is about two-thirds the lowest price I found for new attachments.

This is not the exact same trimmer that is for sale here so there may be differences, but this might provide insight. First of all be sure to keep your receipt, they won't even look at it with out a receipt. I have a yard machine Y780 string trimmer and I am very displeased with the product and the service. After just a few weeks of use the pull start cord failed to engage. I have owned several other trimmers and never had this problem. I contacted the 800 number on the trimmer and they directed me to a very rude repair man that said that is just wear and tear and they won't fix it anyway. The whole product is poorly desinged: the only thing you should ever have to replace is the cord, which is impossible to get at. The flywheel that engages the starter is plastic. Of all the parts that should be metal this is the one. I might add that I have a Club Cadet lawn tractor that is also made by MTD and I absolutely love it.

Bare bones machine- I will wait to see if it is reliable. Starting procedure is ridiculous but it seems to run well. Packaging was all beat up and taped closed.... appeared to have been opened before. It seems all the E retailers like to pawn off their store returns by mail.
